3 Steps to Growing and Retaining Natural Healthy Hair
The amount of articles about growing natural hair on google search and YouTube can be overwhelming. You may tried out every product suggested, only to leave your hair more damaged than when you started.
We understand that it can be frustrating. Growing your hair requires patience and learning that you may feel is too time consuming. However, if you don’t learn what works you’ll always be stuck with issues like split ends, dry scalp, dandruff, alopecia and more.
With over 20 years of natural hair experience at Shateria Beauty we decided to share 3 steps to grow healthy hair.
Step 1
“Clarify your scalp to restore your pH balance”
So many times we use regular shampoo and think our scalp is clean. Yes, it may look and feel clean. However for some reason, you’re still getting a lot of dandruff within a week of washing your hair. If this is you, you need to use a clarifying shampoo.
Clarifying shampoos clean your hair of fungus, bacteria and anything else that shouldn’t be there. Over time products like gels or hair glue that you may have used on your last hairstyle sit on your scalp and change your pH balance. Our natural pH balance should be between 4.5 and 5.0 It’s best to use a clarifying shampoo that has a pH balance of 5 or lower so that your hair and scalp can stay at the best natural balance.
Step 2
“Use ingredients that lock in moisture, prevents bacteria and promotes blood flow.”
After your scalp has been clarified, you need to use products that have active ingredients that promote blood flow of the scalp like lavender and peppermint. As well as moisturizes your scalp and hair shafts. Curly hair gets dryer faster and can break off quickly. So keeping moisture would allow your coils to retain length as it grows. The hair follicles get stimulated and they create an environment for healthy hair growth.
Step 3
“Live a healthy lifestyle by eating well, staying hydrated and exercising to relieve stress.”
Vitamins A C D E, iron, protein, biotin, zinc, essential fatty acids are all needed for healthy hair growth. A deficiency in these areas could be causing hair loss. So eating foods good for your overall health helps your scalp as well. Hydrating with 8 - 10 glasses of water each day would make sure you aren’t contributing to the dehydration to your hair. It matters what you put in your body.
And the number one culprit of hair loss is… STRESS! Stress may feel inevitable because you have so much going on. The good news is that you can create a positive environment for yourself that relieves you of stress you may have accumulated. Exercising relieves bottled up stress and allows your blood to circulate (so does sex). You can find creative ways to exercise like going to a dance class or party, playing double dutch, and riding a bike by the beach this summer. Whatever you do find YOUR PEACE and keep it.
